Camp Arifjan deployed Soldiers earn Norwegian Foot March badge under desert sun

March 21, 2021 — CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait -- Army Reserve Col. Garrett Kolo, deployed with the 310th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), was the top finisher in the Norwegian Foot March competition held here March 7 and March 14. Kolo outpaced the other 461 participants who attempted the 18.6-mile course with a 25-pound ruck under their age groups’ time limit. MORE

Camp Arifjan senior leaders show confidence during one-shot COVID-19 vaccine rollout

March 13, 2021 — Senior military leaders here joined the March 13 rollout of Operation Med Spear, which is the expansion of COVID-19 vaccination for all civilian and military personnel in the U.S. Central Command footprint. "Operation Med Spear is something we have been working towards in this theater for many, many months," said Army Reserve Brig. Gen. Justin Swanson, who was vaccinated at the event, and is the deputy commanding general of the 1st Theater Sustainment Command. MORE

March 1, 2021 — Army Reserve Soldiers deployed here shared their thoughts about Black History Month and Black culture in America. MORE
Army Reserve Chief Warrant Officer Denrick Mills, an air mobility warrant officer deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, with the 310th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), said his favorite Black History story is the Triple Nickel “smokejumpers.” In 1945, the all-black 555th Airborne Infantry Battalion was ordered to Oregon to fight forest fires started by nature and by incendiary-bearing balloons sent into West Coast forests by the Japanese. “They used this airborne unit to jump in an put the fire out—that’s how the smokejumpers started,” he said.

February 22, 2021 — Military and civilian medical professionals deployed here received their second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, all part of the initial vaccinations in the Middle East theater. MORE

February 18, 2021 — An Army veterinarian led a groundbreaking canine behavior lecture and demonstration at Kuwait’s Public Authority Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources headquarters for an audience that included the director, as well as other government officials, community leaders, and students.
