Spruill knew she wanted to be a part of the military before she attended kindergarten. “I always said I want to marry somebody in the military—because both of my parents were in the military and I liked the lifestyle of just always having that family feeling—and my dad was like, ‘you don’t have to marry somebody in the military, you can be in the military,’” the Merritt, North Carolina native said. “I was like ‘oh, I didn’t know that was possible,’ you know, as a little five year old, and so it was kind of always just a plan of mine.” MORE

‘Spears Ready’ Soldiers complete 18.6-mile Norwegian Foot March

November 19, 2021 — CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait — More than 20 Soldiers assigned to the Fort Bragg, North Carolina, based 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command completed an 18.6-mile Norwegian Foot March here, Nov. 13, 2021. The Soldiers have been deployed since August serving in support of 1st Theater Sustainment Command. The Fort Knox, Kentucky, based unit is responsible for sustainment operations throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. MORE

‘Spears Ready’ staff sergeant reflects on Native American heritage

November 19, 2021 — CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait — A Soldier descended from the Wolf Clan of the Seneca Nation of Indians, deployed here with the Fort Bragg, North Carolina, based 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, reflected on her cultural and military roots for this year’s Native American Heritage observance. “I’m proud to say I’m Native American,” said Staff Sgt. 1100th TASMG facilitates 82nd CAB retrograde

November 19, 2021 — PORT OF SHUAIBA, Kuwait — The Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, based 1100th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group oversaw the preparations for the retrograde of more than 30 aircraft here, Nov. 7-12, 2021. The AH-64E Apache, UH-60M Black Hawk, and CH-47F Chinook helicopters are assigned to the Fort Bragg, North Carolina, based 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. The Soldiers were deployed to Afghanistan to support base closures and the U.S. military’s exit from the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. MORE

Ramon Turner Sr., security specialist, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, participated in the program from age 13-17, and after earning the rank of petty officer 1st class and spending many summers training and serving aboard Naval and Marine bases, grew a desire to become a U.S. Marine. The 266th FISC was selected to pilot the introduction of counter threat finance techniques into the Army’s conventional forces. Soldiers assigned to the 266th FISC create financial profiles, perform suspicious activity report reviews, conduct commodity flow analyses and execute financial document exploitation—tasks that provide commanders with a greater understanding of the financial underpinnings of adversarial groups.
